Ambulatory Surgery Centers (ASC’s)
Over the last several years, improvements in surgical procedures have
increased the portable volume of surgeries that can be performed in a
non-acute setting. ASC’s have emerged as the facility of choice for
elective surgery. Atlantic believes that design, operational/financial
performance, clinical functionality catering to the patients safety,
and surgeons experience are the key components in developing an ASC.
Management of an ASC is driven by the patient and surgeons'
experience, but understanding the financial management of the
operation as a whole is also critical. Atlantic's approach to financial
management is entirely focused around revenue maximization and cost
reduction. Revenue maximization and cost reduction are common terms
in the ASC industry, however actual practice and the success of these
initiatives is based upon disciplines initiated when operations begin.
For example, the largest controllable expense within the ASC’s Income
Statement is nursing labor cost. How the ASC’s schedule is utilized
drives the majority of the nursing labor productivity. By not establishing
an effective schedule, clinical labor costs will be outliers of the national
benchmark. Communication and cooperation between the physician
partners and the management partner from the inception of the
project is critical to the success of the ASC. The clinical labor
example is only one of many that Atlantic has significant experience in
resolving. Atlantic's executives have experience in managing over 20
individual physician-owned ASC’s and have resolved a vast variety of
issues. With the significant development and operational experience
Atlantic provides a highly efficient, safe and successful ASC for our
potential surgeon partners.
